There are some individuals who call the game as “21,” whereas there are some who like to call it Blackjack. No matter what you decide to call it, the main objective of the game is still to beat the dealer by holding a set of cards that are as close, equal, and not over the sum of 21.
The game of Blackjack is often played with one or several decks of cards. The number of decks used in any given game can be one, two, four, six, or eight. There are even some modern land and online casinos that use continuous shuffling machines so the chances of counting cards are very slim.
The Main Objective of Blackjack
As mentioned in the introduction segment of this post, the main objective of Blackjack or 21 is to beat the dealer. If the cards you hold will amount to a number higher than the dealer’s without going over 21, then you win. You need to get as close to or have a set of cards in your hand that will equate to 21. If your hand goes over 21, then you’re going to get what is known as a “Bust.” If you bust, then you automatically lose this round. However, if the dealer busts, then know that you (as the player) need to act first before you can declare a win. If you bust, then you’re going to lose even though the dealer busts or not.
Card Values in Blackjack
Let’s make one thing clear before moving forward – card suits have no effect in this game. It doesn’t matter if you have an Ace of Hearts or a King of Diamond, you’re going to focus on the numerical values of each card. The cards 2 to 10 will be counted at face value, regardless of their suit. All other cards above 10 (Jack, Queen, and King) will also be counted as 10. An ace can be counted either as one or eleven. Hence, when you have one queen and a five in your hand, then it’s going to equate to 15. If you have a five and one ace in your hand, then the value can either become 6 or 16. If you choose to “Hit” (which is telling the dealer to give you another card to your had) when you have an ace, and the new card will exceed 21, then the ace will automatically be counted as a 1.
The Blackjack Table
All Blackjack games are dealt on a special table unless you’re going to do it at home. This special table is shaped like a semi-circle, and there is a separate square or circle for each player sitting around the table. Whenever you sit down, you must then purchase chips from the table. You can also bring the chips you acquired from another table. You’ll then put your bets in the betting circle right in front of your space. Only the chips found inside the betting circle will count as your bet. All other chips outside of the circle will be deemed as yours. After all the bets have been checked and accounted for, then the game begins.
If the cards in your hand equate to 21, then you’ve got a Blackjack. However, the prize can differ from table-to-table. For instance, if you acquired a Blackjack with an ace and a 10-value card, then you may get paid twice or thrice the amount of your bet. If you and your dealer have a Blackjack, then it’s called a “Push.”
With the help of modern technology, you can now play Blackjack right inside your home. You can play Casino Games Online for Real Money even when you’re still wearing your pajamas.
